MILANO, November 8, 2018 – Yesterday, at the opening day of Il Salone dei Pagamenti 2018 – Payvolution, it was unveiled the first Italian pilot for a Biometric Payment Card. The announcement was made jointly by the issuing bank Intesa Sanpaolo, the payment network Mastercard and the technology supplier Gemalto.

The battery-less Biometric Payment Card will be tested at live merchants within 153 selected bank employees in Turin, Milan and Rome starting from November 26, 2018. The pilot is expected to run for about 16 weeks.
The cardholder fingerprints will be registered via customized secure tablets that will be installed in specific bank branches in the target cities.

The Biometric Payment Card under test is a credit Gold Card operating on Mastercard circuit.
